Along with the Sapporo Snow Festival, the White Illumination has become a highlight of Sapporo in winter. Sapporo City shines with magical lights through February 11, 2024. Enjoy the breathtaking view from the JR Tower observation deck, along with other locations in the city.
②Dive into the Sea: Sapporo Teine

From the top of the mountain here, with and elevation over 1,000 meters, spreading out below is the ocean. With a panoramic view of the city of Sapporo and the Sea of Japan, you can also enjoy an exhilarating slide on the snow that seems like a great big jump into the sea.

Jozankei Onsen, with amazing scenery that looks like a Japanese ink painting, is just a 50-minute drive from central Sapporo. Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort, famous for powder, offers a ¥5,500 bargain package that includes both a day lift ticket at the resort and a day trip to Jozankei Onsen.
⑤Yukiakari no Michi: Otaru

The lovely port city of Otaru is just about one hour from Kiroro. During Yukiakari no Michi, from February 10 to 17, 2024, a city canal is illuminated, creating a beautiful scene. The city is also famous for freshly-caught seafood from the nearby ocean , and for music boxes.

⑦Hokkaido’s Ezo Fuji, Mt. Yotei: Niseko

Sun pillars are a natural phenomenon in which sunlight hitting diamond dust (tiny snow crystals emerging in cold temperatures) forms what looks like a pillar. Kamui’s frigid climate is the ideal environment to encounter this amazing sight.

⑫Hoarfrost views from an incredible terrace: Hoshino Resort Tomamu

The Muhyo (hoarfrost) Terrace at Tomamu is an unforgettable spot for enjoying some amazing views. While you don’t often see Tomamu’s famous unkai—the sea of clouds—in winter, the view takes in trees covered in hoarfrost, as well as the majestic Hidaka Mountains.

Furano Ski Resort: First Track
Furano Ski Resort tops out at 1,074 meters above sea level; below is a fantastic view of the Furano Basin and the Tokachi Mountains. Enjoy the unmatched bonchi powder and the spectacular inland scenery. Ride the gondola departing at 7:40 am for first tracks on a untouched slope; apply to the Furano Ski Resort Fast Track staff by 5 pm the previous day (limit of 50 people).

Operations: every Sunday from January 7 (and Monday the 8th) to February 25, 2024
Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU: Morning Glory
Because of the cold temperatures found in inland areas, Hoshino Resort TOMAMU boasts some of the finest dry powder in the world. It’s possible to beat the crowds, ride the morning gondola and ski fresh runs. The course will be determined by the guide, depending on the conditions of the day. You’ll discover a variety of snow conditions, from natural powder to beautifully groomed slopes.

Niseko Village: First Track Cat Ski
Niseko Village offers a cat ski service to get those first tracks. One cat goes up per day, taking a lucky six people who have the powder all to themselves. Board the cat at 6:45 am and head to slopes with untouched powder. Enjoy all the powder you want up to 8 am. Private charters are also available for two to six people.
Time: 6:45 to 8 am
Fee: ¥15,000/person; private charter: ¥60,000 for groups of two to six persons

Niseko Hanazono Resort: Guaranteed First Tracks by Hanazono Powder Guides (HPG)
Many ski areas have good powder spots, but the Hanazono Powder Guides (HPG), directly managed by the resort, will guide you through the 11 gates accessing the backcountry, and which are covered by the local Niseko Rules. You’re guaranteed a first track with HPG! Only participants can ride the 7:30 am lift which runs before it opens for the general public. The private guided tour is tailored to the skill, experience and pace of the guest. Shuttle service from your accommodation is also provided.
Time: 7:30 am for those who want first tracks
Fee: ¥11,000 per person for one-day private tour

Niseko Hanazono Resort: Niseko Weiss Powder Cat
A luxurious first track, with a chartered cat and the entire, huge Niseko Weissborn area for just 12 people, accompanied by guides who will lead guests to the very best powder spots. A photographer will accompany the group and provide shots of your experience. The package includes safety gear, transportation from your accommodation, snacks and lunch at the Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono. Private charters for as few as one person, and group tours are also available.

Rusutsu Resort: Mt. Isora First Track
A popular fast track program at the huge Rusutsu Resort. Transfer to Mt. Isora by free shuttle bus, ride the gondola at 8:45 am and ride until the slopes open to the public. The Isora Grand Course contains Rusutsu’s longest run—3.5 kilometers—while the Heavenly Canyon Course provides natural, ungroomed snow. Choose the course you want, depending on the day’s snow and your own style. Advanced registration is required; seating is limited to 60 people daily.
Time: 8:45 at Isora Gondola; ends when the slopes open
